2009 Postings
Wow, 2009 was an amazing year for us. Our first year of having 4 cria arrive on the farm. An amazingly long mud season. The start of our farm blog and journal. Our first time raising five pigs, and having an amazing pig roast for family and friends. The barn has seen the installation of siding and doors, as well as the girls moving in. Mayn things happened in 2009, why don't you stop by for a few moments and take a look at what we have been up to.
2010 Postings
We start this year off with 16 alpacas. Plans are to get more land cleared, using more pigs. Add two bee hives, grub the land to plant pasture, put in over 100 fence posts, maintain existing infrastructure. Come along and see what we can get done.

Happy April! This month we have to look forward to the North American Alpaca show, shearing day, the arrival of piglets, and likely much much more. I will try to keep you up to date on the happenings here.

This month we get our two packages of bees, shear our alpacas, move the pigs to their next rooting spot and prepare for the New Hampshire Sheep and Wool Festival and New England Alpaca Fest.

WOW! It is already February. This means we start planning breedings, preparing for spring shows and events, Shearing in a few months, and just four more months until Cria start dropping to the ground! Okay, maybe I am getting a little ahead of myself...

Although we may not be expecting any new cria this winter month or concentrating on breedings, we are still quite busy here on the farm. Come visit and see what we are up to this month.

We took January off. Not much going on. Moved some snow around. Started farm planning for Spring.

Yeah! It is July. Here in New England we have not had much of a "summer". So far it has been filled with rain and mud. Our cria have finally started to arrive. Come along for the ride and watch them grow.

Ah June. The flowers are in full bloom. Will we have those babies we have been waiting for? These long summer days make for very biusy farmers. Lots of nice weather to get a whole lot of infrastructure repaired and built. We do look forward to the rainy ones too, gives us a day off...sort of.

This month we are headed to New England Alpaca Fest which is held at the New Hampshire Sheep and Wool Festival in Contoocook New Hampshire. We also have big plans for making pasture and getting those piggies bigger...AND names.

Maine Open Farm Day
Abenaqui Alpacas is teaming up with Oak Hill Alpaca Ranch and the Redneck Raceway for Maine Open Farm Day. Come support your local maine farmers and businesses. Gates open at 10 am and close at 4 pm. Lawnmower races start at 1230. Come on over and enjoy all the fun. We will have farm tours, fiber artist demonstrations and the races. Food provided by Black Bear Cafe of Shapleigh Maine. Meet me and the alpacas. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Snow Day

A very busy day is behind us. Two feet of snow have fallen. In addition to our regular chores, we spent the day moving snow. Steve on the tractor, me behind the snow blower.
The Barn Siding continues

Today Steve and I bundled up in the cold wind to continue putting up the siding. We spent about 6 hours out there finishing the west side of the barn. It is coming out quite beautifully. Putting that siding up is giving the barn a look of completion. While Steve nailed, I measured and cut the siding to length.

As mentioned in the last entry, I was going to talk about spinning. This has become one of my favorite winter pasttimes. (I say winter only because I just purchased my first spinning wheel this winter and have the time. I am not sure if summer daylight hours will promote much use of the wheel.)
